Collective subconscious that SHTF is coming

Post by Roopz »

I had my cousin staying from out of town last week. He's about as far from bring a Prepper or Prepped as you can be. I doubt that he'd ever even thought about it. Anyway, he spied my kit cupboard one evening and I was packing some stuff too as I have headed out for half term week. He said to my wife off the cuff later " wow you guys would be really well prepared for (words like) TEOTWAWKI".

He's not the first person who's spoken about SHTF with me recently who has no idea I'm a Prepper. It's almost as if there is a real credible groundswell building of people who are starting to think about it. I've recently felt that "something is coming" it seems I'm not the only one.

I think the term collective subconscious is a little OTT but tigs is spot on. There's been way more talk about this sort of stuff with the recent Doomsday Preppers series but it is amazing how people are putting more and more of the different topics together and figuring out that the life we have is going to really change.

Mrs scotsman and i were talking about this the other day, granted it was more along the lines of how weather seams to be getting worse theres more storms ect

( no politics )

I also think that the uk could run into issues come 2014 on scotlands independence not to mention the fact yesterday the PM was beaten about the EU and the amount we have to pay i do not think the EU will like being asked to cut what what we pay.But then hear people talk about a VITO(sp?)
oh i dont know we can sit and debate on this subject till were all old and grey fact is were all here in a sense one step ahead ;)

I've noticed this too.
It's all a bit weird really. I don't know if it's just me picking up on the increased chatter about TEOTWAWKI, or if it really is increasing.
Comments in TV shows, off-hand comments from news presenters, passing conversation etc.
Also, my Dad has started (what could be termed) prepping.

Kind of scary really, whether it's coincidence or not.

As a society more and more of the "average Joes" are being effected eccomonically these days. Also education is vastly different to howi t used to be. We teach global warming/climate change in schools (I mean the fact it is happening and how the climate has changed before and how humans have an impact on natural cycles etc etc,). Reception children learn about recycling and switching off lights, right through to your GCSE students in their studies so we are bringing up a generation who are in part at least (those that listen and absrob,) a generation who are more savvy in how change is effecting us and the possibilities of what could come. Also these days with social networking, the internet as it is now against 10 years ago, information flows faster than ever before. Us regular folk can acess weather, seismic, and other data easily over the net more than ever before. Also there is a demand for broadcasting the doomsday programmes, be they the documentaries on supervolvanoes, climate change or just basic self sufficiencey programmes so more people are seeing these things that wouldn't have done so 5 or 10 years ago.

All of these things mean that the collective subconsious is probably more tuned in than ever before. War time phrases "like dig for britain" and "mend and make do" have come back into circulation which is good as we still still have people alive who lived through those times who can impart knowledge that our current generations are less aware of.

That's ok, it just means that we have more of a skill based future ahead of us rather than hiring others to do it for us.

Its a bit like the Aboriginal pointing bone, it worked because they believed it worked and worried themselves to death......... the more talk of something happening the more something is more likely to happen ( the more people will talk of it and so on....)

............Plus i have to add this extract for fun,

"The act of boning someone is always done in secret, attended by a small number of suitably initiated men,"

Unfortunately, my personal experience of the youth of today is that they are more interested in what Justin Bieber had for breakfast than what is actually happening in the world.

I am not a big believer in Global Warming but I don't tend to speak about it much seeing as the EU are planning on making it a crime to say Global Warming is a myth. Unbelievable I know but it's true.

I am doing my bit to try and spread the word about prepping. I use the power cut argument as I know people who it has happened to over Christmas. I just remind them that it always help to have certain things put aside.

If someone says you are being pessimistic, hoping for the end of the world or trys to put you down ask them if they have a smoke alarm. Then ask them if, when they bought it, they said "Ooh, I can't wait to have a chip pan fire so I can try out my new smoke alarm".

NO, they bought it with the hope they would never need it. The same goes for Plasters, Aspirin, Cough Medicine, etc, etc.

Has anyone bought some headache tablets and thought, "I can't wait for a skull cracking migraine so I can try these new tablets"?

It's a form of insurance that we hope we will never have to use but are glad we have them.

Be lucky (and ready for the Mutant Alien Zombie Holocaust Alien Invasion Supervolcano Solar Flare that may or may not be coming) :tinfoil
