hi;
sorry if this is repeating, but i have done my first batch of mylar bags and oxy abs all went well. but i have left them for 24 hours now and they are still not completely vacumed - are they ok like this? they arent puffy and there is less air than more if you know what i mean. any advice helpful. and if they are alright like this why use oxy abs anyway?

mylar bag vacum
Re: mylar bag vacum
Oxygen absorbers only absorb oxygen (and probably not all of it). Oxygen is only 21% of the air in the bag, so the other 79% of gases will not be absorbed, therefore you won't get the same kind of 'hard-packed' vacuum you might expect from an actual vacuum packed bag. A bit of 'puffiness' in the bag is nothing to worry about, theres no real way to ensure it's worked properly I'm afraid

Sorry for delay in replying- been painting - anyhoo -storm.ridley wrote:in baged up, oats pasta rice oatmeal powdered milk noodles.
- I have found with powdered milk can leave a thin film of powder where I need to seal - so I use a clean paper towel and wipe where I am going to seal. My bags do get rock hard with powdered mil - it takes about 24hrs
- If your leaving your bags laid out overnight, you will soon know if any of your bags are punctured with the pasta & rice - because sometimes they can puncture the bags - the hole may be very small but would result in the bag not vacuuming
- oats /oatmeal doesn't get rock hard
hope this helps
