Post by mitch66 »

hi, i know tined food can last years after it best before date, but does anyone know how long dolmio express carbonara pasta sauce could last for ? the ones in the plastic packet. the best before date said 11-06-11 but it tasted ok and its in a protective atmosphere, well it was before i had it for tea tonight, i had about 12 of them in the back of the landrover down to the last two now, minced beef bolognese 19-06-11 and my last carbonara sauce 25-06-11. think il save them till next month and try them then. any idear how long they could last for ? thanks for your time. carl

If it looks okay, smells okay and tastes okay, the chances are that it's okay. I had a couple of those Lloyd Groossman 'For One' carbonara sauces in the cupboard about six months past their BB4 date and only recently ate them both. Am still here to tell the tale.

If it is 'BEST BEFORE' you will be ok as long as the packaging is not compromised. If it is 'USE BY' then BIN IT!!!
Reason? Use by means that pathogens could become present. Mayonaisse is a very good example. It is egg based, so has a very finite life. Those pathogens cannot be seen, smelled, nor tasted.
