Hi from Eltham

Post by De La Wode »

Hi, saw a documentary about Preppers and always wondered if people were out there who were planning for this kind of scenario. My interest is more to do with being a survivalist than predicting Armageddon, I think it a shame that society relies heavily on technology and people don't do camping or outdoor huntsman type activities with their children anymore. I hope we never experience it but if it does come, would be good to be prepared and know some like minded people. I look forward to hearing what you have to say and if I think I can be helpful, I'll do me best.

Cheers

Hello And welcome to the forum.

Prepping is not all about being ready for the end of the world, Armageddon style. Many of us prep for bad weather, unemployment, the rising cost of living etc.

Survival for me is not about living wild in the woods. It's about being able to feed my family by growing my own veg and raising livestock, being less reliant on the supermarkets and having alternative heating and lighting.

Hiya Ben,

I too think it's a shame that people aren't outside nearly as much nowadays! And no, not so much living wild in the woods ;) but just like you said, camping etc!

Hope you find what you're looking for in this site!

Hi and welcome, am new to the forum as well, being a survivalist is a core prepping skill! I think preppingsu has hit the nail on the head with regards to what prepping is but not limited to "being less reliant on the supermarkets and having alternative heating and lighting".

Those are just examples. The traditional idea of a survivalist is someone who has the skills to survive in e wilderness, using what resources are available ( that is a basic viewpoint before anyone shoots me down!). I believe by being a 'prepper' I am prepping to survive whatever life might throw at me and my family.
Being prepared for me involves learning how to grow veg, medicinal herbs, raise livestock, preserve what i grow.
But I also stock food, tinned goods etc.
Gathering knowledge is also important to being prepared and trying out new ways of doing things.

But I do not class myself as a survivalist, mainly due to the image that conjures up. :)
