Good to see new registrations opened back up, thanks. I've been lurking here for a few weeks or so now, but have only just being able to sign up.
I'm not a prepper as such, but always like to be prepared.
I guess I would be classed as more if a survivalist, but with the state if the world we live in right now, I beginning to think a bit of prepping won't go to waste.
Personally, I don't believe we're going to FUBAR'd by the Mayan calendar, or suffer a polar shift (all things sensationalized by the TV) etc, but I do think we are heading for a total change in the way life can be lived. A shift in social standing, and most probably a financial meltdown. (just my opinion of course)
So, here I am, the first step of my prepping is researching, and what better place to start.

Hello and welcome.
What in your opinion is the difference between a survivalist and a prepper? I personally think that there are more similarities than differences; surely by the definition of being a prepper, you are preparing to survive and so by default are also a survivalist?

Cheers all, and @itsy, I guess I meant the stereotypical Bear Grylls/Andy McNab type survivalist. If I was dumped in the middle of nowhere, with little to no kit, I reckon I would have half a chance of lasting a couple of nights or so.
I see your point about there being more similarities then differences though, I just didn't differentiate enough. I see prepping being something for long term sustainability.

Hi Madgaz, Welcome, i have just join as well..... Being a Survivalist is a prepping skill, Being a true Prepper is like being a jack of all trades, so i would class your as a Prepper and one of your core skills would be a survivalist. That just my 2 cent worth!
