Hello all from South Wales - (Yes another prepper from South Wales).
I've been a secret prepper for the past 2 years now (my wife thinks I'm slightly mad and comments that - you've been doomsday shopping again, whenever I fill the car with cheap rice/pasta/corned beef etc...).
I started storing a few extra bits of food every time we go shopping about two years ago (when I became a dad for the first time). I was in the supermarket and the realisation hit me (like a train) that if the supermarket just didn't open one day, what would we do? How would I feed my child... On that day I bought a years worth of baby formula, nappies and wipes (Sorry to everyone else in south wales if you noticed a shortage that week).
Since then I've started moving away from the hording supplies and have been trying to acquire skills rarther than supplies/equipment. I have a lack of trust for the government and fully expect that if the SHTF then it would just be a matter of time before some armed thugs (government or independent) turn up and take everything. (Fighting isn't always the best answer).
I joined this forum hoping to pick up a few skills/tips on how to survive if you don't have your supplies...
Another South Wales Hello!

Hello and welcome. i am a newbie too. My goal for 2013 is to develop skills that i can survive in the wild. Now i don't plan to kill any live animals in the near future but it is no harm in having these skills.
Re: Another South Wales Hello!
Thanks for the welcome.
Although I eat meat I've never actually killed anything (perhaps a spider or two), but if its a matter of getting my hands bloody or seeing my family go hungry its an easy choice.
I think wild rabbits are fairly common where I live so I will have to research how to turn a rabbit in a field into a meal on a plate. Although I guess if you catch them alive, long term you could farm them and not need to hunt so often....
These are the sort of skills I feel the supermarkets and easy lifestyle we enjoy have taken from us all.

I hate the fact if there is no food on the shelves in the supermarket for one reason or another how are we going to get food if we are not prepared now. i plan to be more self sufficient in the future.
