Just wondering from that question, are you concerned for a solar flare emp like me?

C4tch, I've got solar chargers (plus gennys), the small solar can charge AA & AAA size batteries (which the radios use), also got a bulk pack of Duracell batteries with the radios, both are protected in the same container.

So presumably you have the solar charger and generator in your cage as well then? Just my experience with solar charges of the small portable kind are that they take quite a while to charge anything. I do now have a Brunton which is actually pretty great, but it would not fit in a microwave so would have to build something bigger. Obviously the batteries will run down pretty quickly when you start to use radios in an emergency. I do agree that having radios after such an event would be a fantastic boost to morale... Especially if you started picking up other operators. Nothing worse than being in the dark in an emergency so to speak. This is one reason I am going to get myself sorted on HAM next year as part of my plans. Would be cool to have all eventualities covered in case of EMP...

The solar charger is only a fairly cheap one that holds 4 batteries at a time, probably not the best solution but small enough to keep in the can with the radios. My gennys aren't protected at this time but that is something I may look into in the near future. Not particularly prepping for EMP but radios etc are small enough to easily protect so thats what I've done.

Yes it was a mix of a large scale solar flare and an EMP by a rouge nation. =)

And i wanted to protect radio's mainly. I bought a cheap Ipod also I live near an army base called menwith hill 'owned by the us as a 'observation' post', and i'm sure the US government after awhile would like to contact that base, along with all the people and family's who work and live there i assume there would be a small chance of me gaining accses to the wifi code after awhile to see whats going on in the world. I also have it to store my music on 2 =P
