Hi,
I guess I've been prepping all my life, well from about 5 years old! Having lived by a river all my mates and I would play there and enjoy the outdoors, learning to have an affinity with it. Then through the Scouts, starting as a cub and all the way up to a leader, I've been learning and then passing on information about survival and other things vital to understanding and being attuned with the natural world around us. This extends not only to what is traditionally seen as "survival" (catching and cooking food, making shelter, first aid etc), but also the importance of teamwork and leadership in a civilian environment. I've many good friends in the armed forces and I think the civilian and military halves of society both have they can learn from each other.
Living as we do in the countryside down here, my family know the importance of being prepared. The number of power cuts, for instance, lead us to install wood burning stoves and we now maintain a large store of good dry fuel. We've also got a great community and some close friends with a range of skills and resources who help each other out in times of need, whether clearing snow with 4x4 vehicles or simply warning each other about routes inaccessible due to floods to name a couple of common examples.
We've livestock (sheep and poultry) here too, and make preserves in the autumn. I also think that now I'll make sure we've other food like canned goods stored in case of emergency.
Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself and give some background.
Thanks!
Greetings from the South East.
