Hi all, just thought id share something that passed through my mind today
I know many of you probably have bug out locations for SHTF situations but what would you think to a community BOL centrally?
If things dont go south then this share location could be used as a weekend retreat for meets, skill sharing etc......
Here is what I thought....(i'll use 100 people as an example)
if 100 people decided yes...Im in this for the forseeable future, I will be prepping my whole life, wouldnt it be great if those 100 people got together and decided to make a village in effect for SHTF situations or for weekend getaways etc.... safety in numbers and all that jazz!
If those 100 people put £10 a month into a joint pot....over the short space of a year the pot would reach £12'000, 2 years £24'000 and so on.....
Then think of how little you can purchase plots of land for these days......see where im going!
Then think of each of the 100 peoples skills.... together they could create structures, planting beds, security etc......
and the continuous input of £10 a month from each member could fund further growth of the community
long term this could become an actual prepper community with every member having joint ownership of it, passing thier share of the deed down through the ages!
If the SHTF you would have 99 other people by your side ready to survive by any means....
Has my imagination ran away a little far.....!?

Heating is by log burner, the wind generator would provide lights, radio maybe not a washing machine, but it would manage a chest freezer.
The gardens all planted with fruit and veg with a well stocked “prepper cupboard” my plan would be to stay at home
Our location was choosen to give access to both woodland and shoreline, I've got a air rifle, joined a rifle club to learn to use it and have permission to shoot on next door farm. My OH can turn a bunny into many a delicious meal form pie to curry, started baking her own bread so we are investigating long term flour storage.
It's not a perfect setup by any means but things would have to be VERY serious before I'd abandon my fireside seat.
45 year old male
Outskirts of a city but a very rural area 2 min walk from river/woods etc
The above is what I want to do, a mate is getting married soon and I have first dibs on his place in the country wood burner etc.
Saying that where I am now (housing estate) I have tescos loading area across the road (food source) and a stream at the bottom of the garden.

Bug out? only if HMG will let you. I could see them bringing in curfews if things get to bad?
Then a shoot to kill policy?

I forgot about that scenario, Good job I thought about using map and compass so would go cross country, they have to see you to shoot you, and there are ways around that.Leo1 wrote:Bug out? only if HMG will let you. I could see them bringing in curfews if things get to bad?

How many people in the UK against how many capable people working for HMG to operate such a system if things get to bad
Besides, bug out is a last ditch option, nowt like the green green grass of home

Re: Bug in or bug out
I'm married, have kids and live in London so I guess I would be looking to bug in unless I had prior warning of any crisis or wanted to contend with half the city's population clogging up the roads. That said, most of my close relatives live in rural locations in the far south west so it would be desirable, although maybe not possible, to get down there. The fact they have access to boats, fishing gear, hunting equipment etc makes it even more attractive.
Re: Bug in or bug out
Why think car? Think bike, a lot of cycle routes lead into the SW?
Along the south side of the Thames
Turn left at Reading onto the Kennett and Avon Canal
Keep straight on to Bristol Down to Wells and the Somerset Levels,
Tarka Trail
Across to Bude
Down the North coast Trail
If you go that far

Re: Bug in or bug out
Doing it with an eight and one year old might be asking for trouble
Re: Bug in or bug out
nightowl have you had a look at cargo bikes I have just heard about them. I would also start doing nice Sunday afternoon walks/cycle rides making for the M25 as you go the kids can look for hiding places (there great at looking outside the box) and you could do a bit of foraging with them as well then take everything home and cook it this is a safty thing for the children as they learn to bring the stuff back so that you can check it out before eating it. If you go out by car think of back roads not the main ones and all the small country roads it might be longer but could be safer

Re: Bug in or bug out
Anyone actually got a viable place to run to? Really?
I say this as this cold weather is no time to go doing the Rambo/Mr Grylls/total fantasy running to the woods. Why do I say this?
Tonight the police recovered the body of a homeless guy living in the wood at the South end of the village. I shoot near there, and this lad looked like he knew his stuff. His camp looked comfy(as it can be). Now it turns out he is dead. Poor lad.
Bug out to the woods? For me, no chance.
