I guess it will depend what he died from, has there been any comments yet? Apart from the obvious things that is, Hypothermia, starvation, dehydration being the likely ones, but if he had a decent site did he have a fire going, any camping gear?
Such a shame that he died, hopefully they will be able to find any family.
If I had to bug out it would be 72hrs ish, maybe a week, but then it is time to return.

Re: Bug in or bug out
depending on the scenario bug in, live on the outskirts of town but kinda rural, my mum lives 10 miles away in a little village so thats the fall back plan, in the village where i was brought up its farmland so lots of hunters and guns around for defense or hunting, theres a river and lots of friends.
fall back plan for that is i have 2000+ acres to shoot on and i sure gamekeepers and lord of the manor would have room for us, want the protection from looters, want people to run the land and gather food etc.... again would be plenty of guns and theres hidden roman wells there in the woods, so if water isnt contaminated a very local fresh supply.

It only happened 3 hrs ago. If there is a local link I find , I will let you know.
My point was, this lad was living in the woods just like many on the internet fantasise about. He was doing it for real. He (probably) had no option(s).That is one crap situation. It is bloody freezing out there, forget bugging out.

I wouldn't be heading to the woods by choice but, while accidents can happen, there's no reason someone properly equipped and with the right knowledge should end up like the homeless guy.
Re: Bug in or bug out
Thing is , this guy DID know what he was doing. Not being funny here, but there are a lot of arm chair experts. It is effin freezing out there tonight-I will stay by the woodstove thanks!nightowl wrote:I wouldn't be heading to the woods by choice but, while accidents can happen, there's no reason someone properly equipped and with the right knowledge should end up like the homeless guy.
When I was 19 I spent a year or four as a member of Her Majesty's Royal Marines. We did some Arctic training in Norway. Of course, we were trained to stay alive, but you know what? Feck that!Rven with the training I had,I will NEVER, EVER, run to the hills so to speak.
Putting a pack on yer back and heading to a vague " bit of woodland I know about" with no stores or FIRM plan, makes you, not a survivor, but a refugee. A refugee is a person who has no control of their own destiny. "Bugging out" is an internet fantasy I am afraid-you need a solid home to go to, not a tarpaulin in January.

This puts things into perspective where Bugging Out is concerned. It comes from an American angle in many ways, but we here in the UK can easily relate to the things been said.

Any further info on what this guy died off Jansman?
Couldn't find any mention online, or is he sadly just another nobody that no-one even talks about?

Excellent link, thank you.
