thought I'd have a go at chitting some parsnip seeds this week as they are a year old and chitting them is suppose to give you a better results

Hi

Not heard of this technique.

Do you sprout the seeds on damp kitchen roll - like cress?

Then transplant on? I thought root veg didn't like being transplanted...

Would like to improve my parsnip germination rate :)

Cheers

I had heard of doing it with spuds but not with seeds, real eye opener, is it better than just putting them in seed trays and compost?

It is a good way of using seed up , parsnip is notoriously a bad germinator. Have a go- you can buy some more seed if you need, and still have time to do it.

Yes you do then cover them with another peace of damp kitchen roll, cover with clingfilm or plastic bag to keep damp check every day to see if they germinate.
It is the first time I have tried it so it's going to be a bit hit and miss as Im not sure if they should be in the dark or in the light but I'v got plenty of seeds to play with while I try. :D
