Hi all, new to prepping. Help?!?

Post by johno1987 »

Hi all. New to prepping and was wondering if someone could help. I have always been worried that society as we know it could brake down for a number of reasons...race relations take a nosedive and as a result there is rioting, an economic collapse resulting in super inflation and civil unrest or even an oil crisis. I have started by preparing veg plots in the garden in order to start growing my own veg on a large scale. Lucky to have a large garden with the room to do it. I was hoping to start storing food and preserving it. Can anyone give any tips for these two? Totally new to this so you'll have to excuse me if I sound somewhat thick...with the seeds for the veg do I pot them indoors then transfer when ready into the veg patch? The veg patch was dug about a foot deep and then I mixed existing soil with compost from the compost heap and then put normal soil over the top. Any tips/advice for a total novice? Cheers for your help, Jono

Bring them up indoors or a greenhouse at this time of year then plant them out after risk of frost has past....saying that, this is England....grow them in hydroponics...winter is never ending :-)

I am growing my seedlings on the window seal in the Kitchen...

Thank you both, much appreciated. I will order the book and probably start with pots on the window seal. I know food can be preserved using lemon, salt and lime so will look into that as well. I was in Poundland the other day and they had tinned corned beef that expired in late 2017. This is about the longest lasting tinned food I had found, I have a room allocted for storing tin food and water.

Welcome to the forum! Check out the Food, Nutrition and Agriculture section, there might be some useful info in there. I'm useless at growing myself, but there's a lot of knowledgeable people here. Hope you enjoy your stay :D
