I have no idea how much I paid for mine but they have a motion detection option in the software and I bought some USB extension leads to hook up to my old PC they work quite well and my next door nabour's kids no longer through rubbish over they're back garden, and no more kids 'ring and diching' my house.

The webcams make are 'creative' but I would think that the software is more important than quality of shots taken.
This seems like it could be a good option for me as it will store directly onto the PC/USB/SD card and not be as dear. I only really need it to be able to monitor my premises anyway so I'll look into it thanks :D

Totally agree FC, if I'm honest I don't think I would want to or could survive in TEOTWAWKI situation. Most, if not all, of what I am doing now is for those little bumps and perhaps the larger bumps that I think are on their way.

The satisfaction I get now, during the frequent power cuts we do have in my areas, knowing that I can still cook, heat and light my home is reward enough at the moment. But who knows how far I'll take this prepping.

I want to but I always thought it would be too expensive.

I have been looking into the webcam CCTV option and it is definitely a lot cheaper than a general system although the quality can be compromised. For the benefit of what I want and need though this seems to be the best option
