CyberStorm - A Novel

Post by headforthehills »

I haven't seen anything here yet about this book, I am currently about halfway through. http://www.amazon.co.uk/CyberStorm-ebook/dp/B00BT4QRHG.

Set in New York City (at least as far as I have read) the book gives a very interesting account of the collapse of modern infrastructure when IT systems across the world succumb to attack / malware etc. One of the key characters is a prepper who foregoes his bug out option to stay in his apartment block with his friends and neighbours and covers aspects of this dilemma, especially when a lot of bug in stuff is stolen. The collapse is hastened by a series of huge winter snow storms which as well as cutting off a large part of the country also adds a survival element to the narrative. The book is very up to date with many references to very recent events.

As I say not finished it yet and don't want to give out spoilers myself but there was a very novel solution to what happened when looting started and how to take a share before things ran out.

Just finished reading it.

Found it an ok book. Would score 6/10 as a book in general.
Make me think about my own preps a bit more, such as re-visiting my First Aid and medical supplies.

Also thought about the morality of self (family) survival vs helping others.

A couple of aspects of the book are a little far fetched for a true survival scenario, I'm not going to spoil it by giving specifics.

Deffo a good book for the prepper / survival genre.

I found it rather a good story. Worth the read.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Lights out is good too. VERY Americentric though.
