Re: Diabetic worries
i know this is an old thread but ive been thinking about this and did a search .
my blood sugar levels have been a bit ,,, well all over the place lately as low as 4.0 but as high as 8.4 mmol .
i`m a bit worried about going to the docs as its the last thing i need on top of everything else ive got going on with the family .
ive been reading up and it says your blood sugar should be between 4.8 and 5.9 is that correct ? if it is then its the docs for me to find out for sure and see about getting it sorted out .

Re: Diabetic worries
Your levels can rise and fall depending on what you eat but generally the range you state is right, I would suggest getting to the docs ASAP, It may be nothing but if it is diabetes it COULD be sorted with tablets,My daughter has had type 1 diabetes for 12 years now and honestly it doesn't stop her doing a lot, Granted she has to inject 4 times a day but as I say to her its only 30 seconds and shes back to whatever she was doing. Perhaps Ive over simplified a bit but properly managed it doesn't have to change your life a lot. Anyway Im sure its nothing but feel free to ask any questions you have,If I can help I will.
Re: Diabetic worries
Unsure,
I am a type 2 diabetic my glucoses run between 5 and 10 most of the time. If you are diabetic then what matters most is the "HbA1c" done y your GP. This test uses a chemical reaction involving the red stuff in your blood to get and idea of what your glucoses have been like over the previous 60 days ( the average age of your red blood cells).
The test is "THE" standard for diabetes control and the good thing is one bad day here or there will not cause a bad result.
Don't be afraid of the test. If most of your glucoses are under 8 then you are doing better than I am and my HbA1c was 7.2% ( old way of measuring they use a different scale now) and that was rated OK. Under 7% is good and under 6.5% is really good.

Re: Diabetic worries
Unsure,
I wasn't clear if you were diabetic or not. I assumed you were.
Normal glucoses are
3.5 to 5.5 fasting ( no food for 16 hours)
Fasting of 5.5 to 6.8 is impaired.
Fasting over 6.8 on two separate occasions when not unwell suggests diabetes.
Non fasting are usually under 8 but readings over 11 are needed to diagnose diabetes if you are not fasting.
If you are worried see your GP. the earlier you get sorted the better.

Re: Diabetic worries
sorry , i should have explained things a little clearer .
for years my gp has said i have low blood sugar , so the wife thought it a good idea to get me a meter to keep an eye on it better .there was nothing wrong with my system i had [ feel off eat choccy bar ] wait and then feel better type of system . so now i`m worried its gone the other way . how acurate are these accu check meters because seems to be telling me the opposite to what my gp said at my last check up .

Re: Diabetic worries
Pretty accurate as far as Im aware. Although will depend on factors such as whether its calibrated etc. My daughter has a new one with built in magazine of strips etc, Seems accurate and easy to use.
