New Knives.....

Post by Yorkshire Andy »

Well having read on here it looked like i had been naughty and broken the law for years carrying this in my wallet Image

bit silly of me but thought since it was under 3" i would be ok but ignorance of the law is no excuse........ and it as a kit has come in handy many times used to light camping stove when i forgot lighter at one point tweezers have been bloody handy et all anyhow. Since its a fixed blade looks like i would fall very foul of the law. which i read somewhere on here about the swiss army cards victorinox the other night been illegal to carry ....
here is an exemption order to the above, The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) (Exemption) Order 1996 which reads as follows:
2. Section 141A(1) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (sale of knives or certain articles with blade or point to persons under sixteen) shall not apply to —
(a) a folding pocket-knife if the cutting edge of its blade does not exceed 7.62 centimetres (3 inches).
(b) razor blades permanently enclosed in a cartridge or housing where less than 2 millimetres of any blade is exposed beyond the plane which intersects the highest point of the surfaces preceding and following such blades.

silly law imo but dont want to tempt feat or get hauled over the coals for something trivial like this (will still take it camping / hiking/ mountain biking) which imo is a reasonable reason to cary a survival tool) Not that im trivializing knife crime but ive never had the inclination to stick the blade into someone after all i dont wear a hoodie :tinfoil

so.... for every day carry ive invested in these...

Good deal there, care to post a link ?
Spyderco make some good stuff

I EDC an Opi as I need a locking blade for work, and I've been making do with the dinky blade on a PS Style as a 'social knife'.

I'm thinking on investing in a Svord Peasant or Mini-Peasant as I really hate using slip-joints because I've had them shut on me far too many times (apart from when I'm carving, the only times I've cut myself on a knife I'm using is with a slipper folding :x )

one thing i like with these if you hold them as you should your "index" finger holds the blade open

I could get away with a locking knife for work use very easily and i do use one from time to time but generally it stays at work as the amount of times i used to find myself walking round town straight from work with it clipped to the inside of my back pocket was unreal. when you wear it all day everyday you tend to forget its there never even noticed it when sat in the car or on the forklift

Just googled the svord they look like a good design
