The only constant in the history of the planet is change. Humans are stupid. The stupidest species here. We're the only ones who try to hold the world in a never changing 'perfect moment' - it doesn't work like that.

The bottom line is adapt or die. If we can prepare for the adaptation, so much the better. But we must adapt, whether the temperature goes up or down, the weather gets better or worse, the seas rise or fall.

Our best bet is to look to the future and try to prepare for a self reliant place in it. If you can do that with a group or community, so much the better. If you're alone or only have close family, you will have to do the best you can. But the key to survival is adaptation, and until you get the hang of that idea, nothing else will help!

Frankly with all the conflicting reports I end up more confused than worried, or at least I'm confused as to what to worry about.

Simple exportation Global warming melts the ice capes which puts fresh water into the sea making the sea less salty.
Less salt make the golf stream sinks and move away from UK waters(making us colder) giving us the same weather that the country's that share the same latitude as us. These are some of the country's that share our latitude Canada, USA, Russia, China, Mongolia, Poland, Sweden, Czech, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Belgium , Frances and a lot of breakaway country's from the old USSR.
So the weather that we can expect is the weather that these country's already have now. Hope that helps

I resent "All humans are stupid; the stupidest of species". Too much of a gross generalisation IMHO. Humans (all seven billion of us) can act in the most ridiculous of ways. That is not questioned. Yet, humanity is capable of the most amazing and enduring behaviours; as well as a capacity to commit untold horrors. If we really are the 'most stupidest of species' - how come we are still here? Against all the odds, we are still here - and unless I have missed something - we are still top of the food chain. I have to believe that we will realise before its too late that we are in danger of wrecking this wonderful planet upon which we live. We shall see......

Thanks junmist , I do understand the shifting of the Atlantic conveyor and it's resultant effects, and to be honest my remark about confusion and worry was a bit tongue in cheek really .
I've read recently about the heating of deep ocean waters and many other aspects of climate change, but there is an awful lot of conflicting reporting going on.

Well I don't expect to see a glacier in the high street this winter, but what I do expect is a continuation of what we have been seeing in the last twenty or so years , more extremes and " weird " weather events.
A bit like the economic situation , it's unlikely to be a sudden crash but more off a slower change or descent.

It is depressing, but this does happen and has happened many many times over the last million years or so and will continue to happen. Now hopefully it's only a mini ice age, because if it's not and it's a full blown, we are Screwed!!
