What Preps are you doing this week

If you have a log burner, get a chainsaw. Full stop.Spiderwebb wrote:Finishing my log store ahead of a wood burner being fitted in January - cant wait! I had 2 large trees chopped down a month ago and have just started logging and splitting it all. Determined to do it all with no power tools, but hadn't appreciated just how hard it is!...just using a bow saw, sledge hammer & wedge.

Next week I go on a three day First Aid at Work course with St John's Ambulance. Useful skills being paid for by work! Hurrah!
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Been getting my head around the terracotta flowerpot and candle heater idea and am exploring different ways to use this technology so that I can use it if the power goes to warm my hands or boost the heat in my chilly bathroom without using mains power. Have stocked up on a selection of flowerpots to experiment with and will be getting more components soon.
Hopefully I will be able to find a way of using this in a more productive way to generate more heat and do some useful domestic heating (fingers crossed).
It definitely proves to be a positive way of warming your hands and I have purchased some Hammerite BBQ matt black spray paint and am thinking of spraying the pots black to enhance radiation potential and might consider reflective surfaces at the back to bounce more radiation forward to make the whole thing more useful.

Like Nick, I'm experimenting with tealight heaters. Aiming to have a couple up and running over the weekend.
Also planned for the week ahead will be refilling water containers, recharging all lights and batteries and getting the last delivery of wood in for the burner.
All ready to hibernate then

A friend came around and we:
1. Had a first burn in my wood stove- front room toasty
2. Drilled out some aluminium pegs to use in winter months as dead man anchors:

3. Attached Brake cable to pot as a suspension point.
4. Had a second burn in my wood stove- front room toastier

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Took my delivery of 200 tea lights for both illumination and some huddle-around-able heat using the flower pot methods for if / when we have powercuts / brown outs and the like.

Spent the day sorting out my outgoings and incomings, managed to make savings of about £200 a month after switching some services, also took delivery of more Lysine as it eliminates the possibility of cold sores, which is more a winter thing. It also has a bunch of other positives.

Remember Danger.... first roll play is usually a touch patient and your dead too..... check for them laying on a extension cable or near an overturned lap top with a can of pop or coffee cup next to them (this lead to a heated debate with the trainer when i ended up "dead" as my knowledge that yes he's been electrocuted and i will move the chair which was plastic to get to the socket to isolate it was "wrong"
That and the check response one was a man laying on the floor with the scenario you find him walking home late at night............ Yep he was homeless man trying to sleep with some of the group baring the DRAB assessment had been drummed in for 2.5 days they were still "calling" an ambulance just because he was laid on the ground
Anyway its always fun if you get a good group and can set about molesting the fairer sex all in terms of training we had some right characters in the group who were worse than us men
