Please be careful when using any Alcohols (CH Groups) and Oxidising Agents. Pyrotechnic compositions are far more sensitive to unintended initiation than either commercial or military grade explosives. Avoid confinement at all costs ands do keep them separate. Beware of the quantities that you acquire them in, otherwise you may well have CO13 or Special Branch knocking on your door!

I keep a vial of potassium permanganate in my bob too. As well as fire lighting, which I usually mix with sugar and use friction to ignite, it can also be used to disinfect water, as an anti-fungal and various other medicinal uses.

Mix potassium permanganate and sugar together and pour an amount onto a flat piece of wood. Gather a tinder bundle and rub a stick against the mixture. It will ignite and burn, add the tinder to build the fire. Works pretty well

The Guy with no shoes on "Duel survival" used this on the program where they are in Africa, he usec the potassium permanganate to purify water and then used it with suger on a fire drill, it took very little drilling to get it lit, but he didnt get it in the tinder quick enough at first as it burns pretty quick!

I want some now.

Yea, add a few crystals to a litre of water. As long as it's pink and not purple, it's safe to drink.
