No not at all. Plenty of people survived the Hiroshima bomb including some who were a relatively short distance away from the blast center.
As you said later it wasn't 2Mtonnes wasn't it around 16 Ktonnes  I was half joking, but there are some apocalyptic scenarios that (when you've lived a happy and full life for over half a century) are only worth surviving to help the younger generation cope with, so if there was a shelter or underground place I could access in under 5 minutes then maybe, perhaps it's the timescale given that my lot's idea of getting ready and going out takes more than 30 minutes
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Hobo, those seem to assume you are at home. If so, why would you Bug Out from home? Surely Bugging Out is something you do to get home?

OK so i went with the idea that there was a major chem leak in the industrial area behind my house, that for me would be SHTF those chemicals can course some serious damage. acids and corrosives and the such, kind of stuff you dont want to have in or around you. i am 1/4 of a mile as the crow flies from the nearest plant.

1) listen for the siren (alerts nearby residents of leaks/spills)
2) execute normal procedure, seal all point of ingress (previous leaks have not been too serve, just slight problem for people with resp problems so thats normally the last of it)
3) await, contact by authorities/siren to stop
4) if more severe and area cordoned by authorities etc, go for full face masks or BA
5) go grab modular kit from other room and throw in back of BOV
6) head to friends

if it wasnt the chem leak then it would be bug in and evaluate the situation. have kit on standby in the truck and go from there.

That's my plan of what i would do, CC welcome.

Yes, I was assuming in this case that I was at home and no, I'd bug out from home (ie home isn't safe any more).
For example, 3 years ago I really did have to to bug out with the kids because of an emergency situation at home. We had less than 5 minutes notice, grabbed our BOBs and bugged out at a Youth Hostel for 4 days!

So really its quite simple.. Grab your BOB.. if your BOB is simply about getting Camo'd up and running to the forest then IMO more fool you.. surely your BOB is a survival kit for say 72 hours whether it be in the true wilderness or in a hostel / emergency shelter???

Thats not what many consider Bugging Out to be, what you describe is becoming a refugee.

I think the idea of a bug out bag (sometimes called a grab bag, 72 hr kit, emergemcy bag etc) should be something that if you have to leave your home for whatever reason would help you survive the next 72 hours.
I don't ever think I'll be 'bugging out' to the woods but I probably wouldn't go to an emergency shelter. That would make me a victim and the reason I prep is to avoid that!
I would hope that we could get to a hotel or a little bit further away my parents or other extended family members.
My bag would contain everything I would need to get through the next 72hours fairly comfortably.

A many others have said, emergency depending; I'd first work out where everyone is, contact immediate family that needed to be contacted, (if that was pos and the lines weren't jammed.) I'd then grab my bag and make sure others in the house grabbed theirs in case of sudden evacuation - gotta know where your important stuff is. Fill water containers if necessary and tune into a news channel/communications. If at work, grab my edc bag and settle in with everyone else at the school I work at. In likelihood, my kids'd be at their school too, hubby at work and me at my school so it'd be a case of dealing with those about you and hoping your family had the sense to do the right thing where ever they are.
