Car roof box

It's a good idea but as others said, a bit hard to fit when loaded up. I already have roof bars on all the time, but my roof box has attachments at the base, inside the box, meaning that you need to open it up and access the base. So if it was full of tent/sleeping bags etc it would be awkward (but possible I guess as long as it wasn't too full). There is also the weight issue as I normally lift it onto the car when empty.

A roof box might also attract unwelcome attention.

Trailer is a good idea, but who can keep their trailer loaded with kit the whole time?

A simpler solution would just be to make sure that your kit is easily moved in holdalls etc - and that you have a reasonably big boot on your car, next time you buy/change cars... Or keep a trailer empty as much as possible.

How about and this would need a garage , have the loaded roofbox on the roofrack bars , on a pulley system above the car so that when needed could be lowered onto the car and driven away, and it gives you additional storage . And also still gives you your garage to park the car.

I've got all my kit in the porch and so, if needed, I can load up my top box and trailer in a matter of minutes. Just lob it all in and throw a cover over the trailer. I might choose to start putting my GHB/GOOD bag in the top box though - keeps it safe and accessible.

I don't often go very far without the car but I often go places without the house.

Only problem is that I have my big knife and parang in there. Illegal carry.

Yeah it is, actually. I was thinking about this lately, I doubt a copper would be bothered causing trouble for someone like me anyway. Think I'll put it in there as soon as I get a steering lock for the car - I don't want the car getting nicked with all my stuff in.

I have the disklok on my car and it gives peace o mind as well as security. Not had my car touched since I put this on. A tad pricy but miles cheaper than replacing a car and it's contents

On a related note. An Ex was told by a senior taffic cop to use a crooklock* between the steering wheel and the Brake pedal, the scrotes try to break the lock by stamping on the pedal and they can't do that against the Brakes hydralics
