Aldi and Lidl have been selling fruit trees for about a fiver - need to get down there and see if there are any left. It's a bit late in the season, but for that price, it's worth trying a few.

I bought a cheap fiver plum tree about two years ago from woolworths and it beared some fruit last year but this year is the first good crop and it looks promising by the flowers. Also got on from QD this winter. They might not be as strong as the ones from nursuries but it might mean it takes an extra year to get fruit.

Just make sure you don't need 2 for pollination as we found out with our blueberry bush. :)

What? Pollination? The destructions that came with the plant do NOT mention extra bushes...? :?

So you have to 'mate' two bushes sometimes then? Blimey...

well, we planted one blueberry bush 2 years ago, the 1st year had a great crop, last year very poor. Since found out there needs to be 2 bushes for cross pollination and to get a good crop. I assume the bees do the business

Right - well I'll buy another and put them beside each other. Mind you...there are no bees in my garden. :(

I do have a lavender bush which I know that bees love. Any ideas about any other things I could plant, in pots, that would attract bees (love bees  )?

any wild flowers, sunflowers etc. You could also provide some bee homes (either bought or made ones) to encourage hibination in your garden. I have done that and had solitary bees laying their larva over the winter. Fantastic! :D

Best thing ever for attracting bees is comfrey. My comfrey was literally alive last year with hundreds of them. Buddlieas are good for bees and butterflies too.
