with the 50tf, if you were 30ft from center of road inside a garage with the metal door closed and a car parked on the other side of the door, a 22 11.5ft/lb with silencer shooting towards the back cinder block wall (away from the road - end of a culdesac with no through traffic or public cut through foot paths) with large cardboard and sand back stop in front of the wall. There is zero chance of any pellets ricocheting off the back stop or leaving the garage area. The weapon is always pointed down range towards the back wall / stop and never left un-attended or loaded. The only thing is slight noise of discharge. The back stop will be over 50ft from the center of the road if I am prone at the door end, I add another 6ft onto the 30ft. If I were to shoot from the wall end towards the door, I would be over 50ft but the back stop would not - plus this has to be a more potentially hazardous arrangement shooting in the direction of the road, but back stop behind the door will stop pellette and stop it damaging the door or risk of penetrating the door (or my car on driveway on the other side of the door).
What would you do, is what I am proposing safe (I honestly believe it is very safe and discrete) or not to the letter and I should stand at the other end of the garage so I am 50ft and shot back towards the road (dumb!) - or should I not bother at all practicing and just shoot at localish air rifle field shooting club or at more local firearms range / club that I am on the waiting list to join in Feb.

As for me, if you have a choice (target practice etc) shoot away from the road..... Also if you can shoot from elevation so your pellets/bullets/arrows are heading down

It's not so much whether it's 30, 50 or 100 feet. The question you need to ask yourself is are you likely to raise alarm from a person on the highway or on public ground nearby to where you're shooting. It sounds to me as though you've thought it through and you are unlikely to draw any attention.ojiu0u4 wrote:with the 50tf, if you were 30ft from center of road inside a garage with the metal door closed and a car parked on the other side of the door, a 22 11.5ft/lb with silencer shooting towards the back cinder block wall (away from the road - end of a culdesac with no through traffic or public cut through foot paths) with large cardboard and sand back stop in front of the wall.
