This is something I was thinking about the other day. Or should I say something I realised the other day... that I'm no where near fit enough to get myself anywhere fast on foot if I needed to, never mind whilst carrying my 17 month old daughter if necessary.
My job involves a lot of walking but lots of short distances. I dropped my car off at the garage the other day and walked home, only about three quarters of a mile. My calves felt like they had seized up and I physically felt tired when I got home. I walk the dog miles but even that involves stopping at every lamp post!
I'm seriously lacking stamina and since stopping cycling four years ago, I'm also now nowhere near as toned or 'fit' as I should be, or want to be.
I'm planning to get back on a bike in Spring (if we have one this year...) and putting in some serious miles like I used to; I regularly rode 60-80 mile trips just for fun (not road cycling either).
I see a lot of prepping but ....

Re: I see a lot of prepping but ....
Revamping the bathroom has been workout enough for this past week, I've found muscles I didn't know I had round my shoulders, being vertically challenged has also meant lots of stretches to reach the top of the walls whilst on ladders, lucky I am flexible as I had to wrap myself round the confined space where the loo is and after regrouting the tiles, removing the old sealant and scrubbing off the excess grout and then all cutting in and painting meant my arms got a great workout too! Should be completed tomorrow.... Then on to the kitchen
Behind every great man is an even greater woman. She carried you, raised you and made you who you are.

I did that for a while, got obsessed and bought loads of gear, then got ill and it kind of got shelved, but now I am getting the bit back in my teeth to get back to it. Its not really about getting myself into shape, more a question of i sit on my arse for a living and just answer the phone and internet chat and thats ok, but it doesn't help me to maintain what little I have got. On top of that I am 40 and men at 40 and thereafter lose muscle mass and as I haven't got any of that to start off with, I really need to try and keep what little I have got.
I see myself as being interested in health (and am making tofu and dehydrator biscuits today) but don't do anywhere near enough fitness which is shocking.
