By coincidence I've just read the first part of Kim Stanley RObinson's book "Shaman" which describes a young shaman's attempts to light a fire using only the materials around him in a storm, after he has been sent naked out into the wilderness for his initiation trial. It's cracking stuff.










(Spoiler alert) He fails, and spends his first night doing press-ups to keep warm.
