You're very lucky to have got an allotment with so much infrastructure on it. Between the polytunnels and the greenhouses, and the land itself, you should be able to feed yourselves almost all year round. Very best of luck with it.

Thanks. My only disappointment is that we are not allowed to have hens or livestock due to the location but that being said it is very much better than nothing given what we have already managed to procure.

Instead of a genny, have you considered a solar generator or a homemade wind turbine?

Definitely something long term that i would like to get, but in the immediate I needed something that would give not only the summerhouse a power supply but also my electric tools and for the £45 I paid it fits the bill.

Looking good so far mate.

I would recomend that you lose the valve and cut the cowl off the top of your stove, the last thing someone wants to see is something that looks like a gas bottle with flames around it.

Two greenhouses for thirty quid ?? You jammy bugger :P

And the summer house, 2 poly tunnels, 3 compost bins, 2 water butts and a load of old tools which we keep finding more of as we uncover more areas.

We also inherited broccoli plants, rhubarb and strawberries which are growing in now as well as an apple tree, raspberry cane and blackberry bushes.

Saturday 28/2/15

So the plan for this weekend was to complete a few final tasks ready for growing. First on the list was to chicken manure and thoroughly water down both poly tunnels and let them sit for 2 weeks before planting.

Once this was done I set about rerouting the 4 way electrical socket in the summerhouse and trying it with the generator

Let there be light and flowing electricity

Next it was time to get planting up some early plants, broadbeans, sugar snap peas and onions were done along with leek and parsnip seen at home.

In the greenhouse to be monitored.

I have some further plans and mods to do in the summerhouse which is my next focus along with turning over an outside bed for my potatoes which are chitting as I type this.

Watch out for mice! I've lost a lot of peas and beans to them.

Thats great! I've just been chatting on a gardening thread on my social site about how great broad beans are, leaving the soil better than when they got going :)

Love the idea of getting the soil set up and then letting it sit for a bit - its certainly going to repay you big time.

My brothers idea to chicken manure the poly tunnels and water them in now so that when the seedlings in the greenhouse emerge we can transplant them over at the right time.
