Escargo by Monday!
Re: Escargo by Monday!
I've eaten snails in a restaurant but in the flesh so to speak they look much less appetising . I think I ate them as a sort of payback for all the stuff in the garden their cousins had eaten. Probably depends upon the cooking but the ones I tried reminded me of liver soaked in garlic butter.

Perhaps there was a dodgy snail in the bucket and birds&bees doesn't have internet access from the toiletfeatherstick wrote:It's Wednesday.
Anyone heard from birds&bees yet? : )

Escargot don't taste of much IMO, apart from whatever they've been cooked with. We buy them in cans sometimes, just for something a bit different, and because we want to use the flashy pans we bought years ago. Haven't considered growing my own, but could be a good idea once all the rabbits have been boiled up
Re: Escargo by Monday!
A little bit off topic but read an article on eating woodlice.
Better than snails as there an instant food source,no purging.
And there easy to pick.
Loads of vids on YouTube about it.

Re: Escargo by Monday!
I seem to recall someone calling them "forest shrimp" , kind of makes them sound more appetising

I think I might give this topic a miss, making my mouth water in the I'm gonna vomit kind of way.

Sorry for the delay fellow preppers! Indeed it ended up being Escargot (or there abouts by Friday) instead. Here's the final product:

Process is simple, purge them a few days, feed them carrots to show the passage or whatever you need to do to convince your self this is a sane thing to do!
Wash of in cold water repeatedly brush shells if you intend to keep them.
Put them in a container and in the fridge (possibly shortly in freezer) this slows their metabolism and people thing makes the process kinder.... maybe? It's worth a shot if it might ease any suffering!
Plung in boiling water for about 5 minutes. I flavour it with onion, garlic, basil salt and pepper but I doubt it's worth while because then we plunge in the cold water and rinse!
Pull out the meaty bit helps do follow the shells curve and remove the small bit on the tail Apparently this is a the hepat-pancreatic-billiary something or other which in a human would translate to liver, pancrease and gall bladder. Apparently in molluscs this can be where some toxinx bioaccumulate idk, I got some I didn't get others.
Now! We make a compound garlic butter, that's garlic, onions, parsley , salt pepper and whatever you have mixed then put in the fridge to set.
Put some in the shells with the snails and then chuck in the oven.
Once bubbling they are good to eat.
Next time I'd blitz them into a snail pate as suggested by a mate.
