My instinct would be stay in, black out the windows and keep the noise down. Have vantage points to look out of the cracks in the curtains.

Have you ever read the 'Hunger Games'? lol... lying low is a safer and surer bet than fighting, especially early on.

Security is a long-term issue, but while physical condition is important, people would be best thinking about developing a strong and reliable local network than turning themselves into a prepping Rambo :D A group always does best. Even a strong fighter is gonna get his ass kicked with 4:1 odds or worse. We lived in tribes of 100+ throughout history, and for good reason.
