Advice on buying Gold.

Sorry to post three posts in a row, but I forgot to mention something I find quite interesting. China has abandoned the troy ounce this year and minted the Gold Panda as a 30g coin. I bought one each for my children because who knows, but its a bit of a historic coin. Might become a collectable by the time they need to buy a flat! On a more note, is this a finger in the air to the west?
