I much prefer that, I must say - I really don't like "shoulds" in any context, it's A Thing for me :D I could pretty much tell you weren't preaching, but it's good of you to write this, much appreciated.

And of course what you're writing is accurate. That helps :D

Keep going! Have you been able to start any of the health-oriented stuff this week?

We have to take it easy as we cant take it any other way. Yes the 1930s parallels are striking *Edited by moderator* but we have to accept the fact that there is always a limit to what we can do. So take it easy. Prepare for what out are able and be flexible. Maybe ad Mr BG says "expect the unexpected" and live in hope.

I'm still planning the regime. So far, defeated my coffee addiction! I've more or less qiven up smoking for vaping, and will be gradually reducing the strength of nicotine in my eliquid over the next six months. I'll be brewing my own wine and beer, which should save me a few pennies towards paying off the credit cards. And maybe I'll drink less, too. Fitness wise, I've stopped using the lift in my block of flats in favour of the stairs, and I climb an extra floor each day. 100 days from now, I'll be climbing a hundred floors and more! Then I'll do it with a rucksack on. There's a stretch of pathway, near me, maybe a quarter of a mile long, by the park. I intend to run and walk that each day in boots and skeleton webbing, an extra quarter mile length a day. When I've got to five miles, constant running, I'll start putting some weight in the webbing. Just need to buy myself a 58 trouser belt and a rugby shirt, for that enterprise. Upper body wise, I have some dumbbells, which I shall be using more frequently, now. So, it's all coming together.

A year from now, I should be in reasonably good physical shape. Eventual goal; fit enough to walk twenty miles a day, up hill and down dale, wearing my BOB, for three days.

Thanks for asking!

Best wishes, 2RM.

So, on the principle of test, test, test, my next short term project, come next pay day, is to buy an extra set of 24 hr rations as listed above. And bug in with them, for 24 hrs, using no mains electricity, water or gas, only camp gear, and just see how that goes. I'll let you all know.

Cheers, 2RM.

Well, I'm now re-configuring my food stocks.

I used to stock up on the casual basis of use some, buy some extra more. With the occasional purchase of stuff I thought I ought to be eating. And, over the last few years, I have built a reasonably good larder, just doing that.

But the more specific, focussed idea is now to hold:

120 days zombie apocalypse supplies
90 days per person/day x standard 24hr 1.3 kg ration packs, as listed above in the thread.
30 days per person/day x emergency 24hr 400g ration packs, consisting of:
3 x 56g seven oceans emergency biscuit bars
1 x 75g meat/fish paste to spread on them
1 x instant noodles
1 x cup a soup
2 x oxo cubes
1 x chocolate bar

General personal food bank
No set ration yet, just stuff it's good to have immediately available in an uncertain world, and enough padding so that I don't immediately deplete the zombie supplies in the event of personal misfortune.
eg, tins of tomatoes, tins of potatoes, pasta, rice, cous cous, canned veg, canned fruit, canned meat, canned fish, chocolate, household consumables like bog roll, washing up liquid, toothpaste etc.
I'll maybe formalise this in due course, and get to a definitive list to maintain, but eventually should amount to another 60 days supplies.

and, of course:

Water
2 x 1 litre, per person/day, 2kg.

That would see me to 180 days resilient.

Cheers, 2RM

Well, a parcel just arrived!

Hydration list for 72hr BOB now completed!

Short list, but possibly the most vital:

3 x 58 Pattern 1 litre Water Bottles
1 x 58 Pattern 0.5 litre Mug
1 x set of Water Purification Tablets
1 x Lifestraw filter

Comments:

Water bottles: (£5-10 each) You could buy a 3 litre hydration pouch, I guess, but the cost and weight savings would be negligible, and I like the inherent discipline involved in using my water litre by litre, easily measured. Buy the genuine MOD surplus item, if you can. There are some cheaper copies available, but in my experience they tend to leak.
Mug: (comes with the bottle, sometimes, and fits snug, to save space). Some prefer the metal 44 pattern mug to the plastic 58, since you can cook/brew in it. Only trouble is, you then have to wait for it to cool right down, before you can drink out of it.
Purifying tablets. (£2-3) Just in case needed.
Lifestraw filter: (£25 or so) 1000 litre, or 1 tonne of water, life span. Perhaps it's overkill for a 72 hr BOB, but if you are still alive after that, you might be glad of that excess capacity. And it's light as a feather, so no problem to carry.

Best wishes, 2RM.

And another parcel!

This time, a set of bathroom scales.

Not good news. Seems I am 6 feet high, with a weight of 111.3 kg (244.2 lbs, 17.44 stone). That gives me a BMI of 33.2, which is officially obese. (But only just). Anyway, I clearly need to do some work on that. But, I guess if you're prepping, you have to deal with where you are, not some fantasy of where you would like to be. Otherwise we preppers would all be survivalists.

Cheers, 2RM.

I'm the same, I've been looking into gaining height ;) you may find yourself back to the overweight level with the right footwear
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Ha Ha! That would be the anti-grav trainers with attached personal rocket pack upgrade, I guess!
