They need to be cared for though, well oiled in use and greased up and wrapped in a rag before packing away after a thorough cleaning to get all the bits of sawdust out.

When in use I think it needs to be kept as straight as possible, like a bowsaw blade would be, not good wrapped around a tight branch.

Thanks for the tips TG :)

I did promise the previous owner that it would a) be used and not stored in a box and b) be cared for and looked after, I love old tools and have never seen the point of putting them on shelves to display, tools are made to work with imo. :)

My WWII survival chainsaw arrived this morning, so I gave it a bit of an oil while I went shopping to loosen it up a bit and had a wee test run when I got back a couple hours later on a nuisance sycamore at the bottom of the garden.

Awesome is the only word I can think of to describe it, ripped through a 3" diam limb of live tree in about 4 mins and I was just steady sawing not hanging off the bugger. No sticking or snatching just smooth sawing all the way through. :D

Absolutely fantastic piece of kit, not exactly pocket size but could take down a fair size tree in 30-40 mins I reckon if that, if you get a chance to grab one, take it. ;)
