No it’s not a rip off. I’ve been in the trade for 40+ years. If skin and fat is removed, it’s gonna cost more. Believe it or not , butchers have wages! Animal ( poultry feed) has increased dramatically. I keep them on small scale, and feed, and bedding , have increased dramatically. So have my wages - ‘cos there is a massive skill shortage. Mainly because it’s hard, dirty AND skilled work.

So has transportation increased. Diesel covers industrial work. Full stop.

You CAN buy chicken thigh, both boneless and skin/ fat less. But that costs EVEN MORE.

On top of which, there has been a shortage for six weeks too. A few poultry plants have shut. Not enough money in it, and , most of all, lack of staff!

There are ripoffs, but general inflation driven by supply and demand is just nature's way of telling us to waste and consume less. Is it subterfuge if Jansman lobs more filler and fat in his sausages? Or îs he just trying to make ends meat?

As consumers we shop around for acceptable quality at appropriate cost. Suppliers that provide that will prosper. We vote with our feet.

Yes plastic has gone silly the government have included a "Stealth tax" early this year on virgin plastic so anything clear film based had jumped a minimum of 20% and stuff with a 20% recycled content avoids it but is more expensive to buy than virgin was ....

Plastic food packaging is evil. Only by pricing it out of existence will we get suitably green. Again.natures way of fixing our habits.

I remember working on the greengrocery round as a kid we use brown paper bags and i always say why not go back to it and glass bottles , the reason they don't like glass these days is because people turn everything in to a weapon , we never threw glass bottles because i guess we were to cheap 5 p on a bottle soon adds up lol .

@jenny i say a huge thanks to anyone testing these cheaper brands we love the hubbards tomato ketchup (sauce) lol ,and have now switched to many of the cheaper brands after testing them oursleves , the mushy peas are good to , i still love heinz tomato soup lol but if the wife and i have a soup i throw in a can of heinz and a cheaper one , well this is when i can not be bothered to make my own .

That's a bit harsh That was 9 years ago and I don't think it was Jansman's fault $:o)
There will always be rogues and crooks and of course, where would we be without scammers.

But in this thread, we are considering the legal ways that we can get decent value for money from 'value' ranges and how we can vote with our feet.
