Oh and don't forget it's Paraffin ... In the event of a wax pool fire DO NOT USE WATER itll flare up like chucking be water on a chip pan

Smother it damp towel / plate / powder / foam / co2 extinguishers. Just not water

This goes for burning candles or melted wax whilst making them...

How many will you need
I've a big box of tea lights and little lanterns to hold them

at £3 per lantern, that's my kind of lamp. :) Certainly worth a try. Beats ramming a candle in a wine bottle.
I've also a big box of pillar candles and some big jars

Nothing awe inspiring but another option don't discount the warmth given off by candles either
Not so appealing. But I see the value in enclosing the flame a bit.

I can see some 'sperimenting, coming soon.

Was looking at those Andy.

Funnily enough I have a lamp oil insert on the way from Hong Kong for the Mini UCO.

I'd never heard of a UCO candlelier, but this intrigues me.
No I'd not heard of them either , I was trying to work out what UCO stood for and ended up googling it
Some years ago a friend and myself set up a little candle making exercise thinking we could make a bob or two . We brought moulds and colouring and set about making fancy candles to sell although ultimately the idea failed , but all the gear went into storage so I still have it all and still collect any wax I come across be it candle stubs , those tiny ones that are put on cakes and even the stuff that goes around cheese.

I have a plastic version for the original UCO, but I use the mini more whilst camping so I thought I;d give this a go.

I was bought a UCO candle holder as a gift, still havent tried it as I also saw the price of the replacement candles. I noticed tonight that my candle stash has run extremely low. I often get gifted scented candles which I tend to keep for best  I also sit by candle light every evening with plain pillar candles. Me being me, they have to be a matching pair but the cost of supermarket ones has increased quite a bit in recent months. I have just placed an order tonight at Ikea for a few, £1.50 for a 15cm candle didnt seem bad so will give them a try. I have plenty of dinner candles for my candleabras which only get used at Christmas and are saved for emergencies and some nice unscented, coloured ones which are too nice to use everyday. I have just converted my husband to sitting by candlelight too, rather than using the lamp. It does have an LED bulb and havent done the math to work out which is more frugal, it just makes me feel better saving a bit more electricity.

I'd never heard of UCO candles until now but, having had a 6 hour power cut yesterday, I'm researching power and lighting solutions in case we have another.
Mind you, I have a load of torches and batteries which, given my clumsiness, I tend to prefer.

Ditto  it looks like the two main selling points are the way the flame is protected by glass, and the spring-loaded support which means its always at a constant height?

Yes to be honest it seemed like quite an expensive system for what is basically a,candle in a,glass, sided box. As,Christmas decorations some years, ago I made some lanterns out of offcuts of ply and glass and I still have them and they don't need specific candles , anything will do...
