Re: Winterising your Car
Hi, unfortunately I got stuck in a colleagues car last year for eleven hours when Glasgow got hit bad. If I was in my car, which had everything we needed in I think we would hav been home earlier. Anyhow, besides the stuff listed so far, I would recommend a pack of cards and a book coz when your stuck it soon gets boring. The best jacket iv used in this situation is a berghaus summit jacket with pertex. Designed for keeping you warm when your not moving and packs real small.

Re: Winterising your Car
My mot is due so I thought I will check all the fluids and change the oil and filters and by doing so I will prepare the van for the coming winter.
What I found: power steering fluid is a bit low so will get a top up, coolant is VERY low so will empty the rest, flush it and refill with antifreeze/water (50/50). Oil and filters will get done on Wed or Sat when I find some spare time and I will leave the rest to the mot mechanic.

Re: Winterising your Car
A little off topic, over the past 4 week we have been delayed on the M6,M42, M25, M26,and have spent around 10 hours in standing traffic, we narrowly missed spending half the night 0n the M56 after yesterdays tragic accident when a lorry crashed threw a bridge onto all three lanes. The most important kit up too now in the car has been his and hers pee bottles with sealing lids, they have saved my wife a lot of embarrassment over the last month.

Re: Winterising your Car
Adding to the post above, a double sheet or blanket (dual purpose) can help with toilet necessities when stuck in a queue.
If you have a four door car you could open the two doors on one side and place a blanket over the tops, then squat and pee.
Also a heavy duty poly bag and cat litter can be used for dual purposes again, poly bag for kneeling on to clear snow under wheels or exhaust and cat litter can be used as grit, also with the litter in the bag you have an absorbent toilet.
