G'day,

Your best bet for water is to install a water butt. I've installed two and in this country, you are unlikely to ever run out  . Some puri tabs or boil it for drinking and you are independent and off the water grid (I've connected one to my toilet cistern and almost halved my water bill). As far as hygiene goes, get a solar camping shower, they only cost a couple of quid and work pretty well.

Self defense is trickier, but I've found an axe handle is a good start ;) ... work your way up from there.
It's a cruel world.

Can you have an open fire in your house Scoobie or look at caravan/ tent stoves which are made to be portable so you could store it in a shed until you needed it

know its a old thread but in general for this sort of situation i suppose a bit of what if dry mental drills could come in handy take this winters storms....

what if you got a flood warning... what have you got or could adapt to help yourself..

supply of sand and sandbags?

water proof sheet to help seal the sandbags?

water pumps?

stuff to decontaminate with

copys of insurance documents

high winds what would you do if say a chimney pot blew off and came through your roof leaving a big hole and rain pouring in?

tarps,
rope,
ladders,
ways to secure ropes to roof
or use the tarp to make a reverse umbrella in the attic and stab a hole in the lowest point of the sheet and place a bucket under it,....
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

How??? Trying to build a stock of food, i'm lucky i live in the country and have three woodburners & have i'm guessing at least a years supply of wood fuel for them, i have two Tilley lamps for emergency lighting, we have a small river at the end of our drive, need to see about water purification (the water is lead contaminated). i'm looking at emergency battery power back up, the system built up by Yorkshire Andy is what i'm looking at, storing Jerry cans with Diesel to try and keep my car running, hunting bow and air rifle, i'm sure there is more that i have not listed here too. The problem for a lot of prepping and preppers is cost of course, and i'm trying to balance the books like everyone else. Oh trying to sort out the garden for growing veg to help too. Any other ideas :?:
