Cultural analysis aside, please remember that in the United States any middle aged, under employed blogger, living in his parents basement, can bang out on his computer whatever notions manage to wiggle through the folds in his tin foil hat.

Sadly that's a lot of what you seem to have found. And I suppose given five minutes reflection we'd all come to the conclusion as to why; the "normal" folks are to busy providing for their families, visiting with friends and generally living life.
Aw, judicatr, I hope you don't feel we're getting at you. I have rellies and friends in the US, I have great grandparents who moved there after they'd had kids here, and I live quite an Americanised life in some ways (tho I don't spell "Americanised" as "Americanized", oops!).
Contrary to world opinion many in the US are sensible, educated, and polite folks just trying to make a more enjoyable and resilient life for our family, friends, and communities. That said here are few good sites I think you might like... Thanks for letting me participate.

Cheers.

Thanks for these! I only know the survival mom, I think she's brilliant, and I've now bookmarked the rest.

And of course we know there are millions and millions of educated, thoughtful Americans, and that expresses in all sorts of ways. To choose just the most absolutely superficial way, for years and years and years, the only intelligent sitcoms on tv were American.

Lovely to hear from you - and looking forward to seeing your future contributions.

I don't think that us preppers take things too far. The situation in the US is much different to the UK. The threats are more severe. With the prevelance of firearms over there you need to be able to prepare against this. This makes firearms essential over there with the necessity for lots of ammo.

Also I think the pioneer mentality is different to ours. Americans are more prepared to look after themselves more than We are. Also i think it helps that land prices are much cheaper!
