Not at all. That's the point of raising these things - to learn from others! Might experiment though with the boot lid up.

A couple of ceramic or fire resistant tiles kept in the boot?

Maddie Cat - yes, do NOT use a hexi stove indoors! They give off massive fumes. Use outside, and I also recommend you get an aluminium wind-guard for it.

I've recently seen flyers advertising this product and became curious. I tried the veggy chilli and it was quite tasty, I was a bit surprised!
But I agree with everyone else, it's too pricey and BB 2013 not really convincing either... I like the idea of storing one in the car for traffic jams though! Might give that a try too.

I wonder if the bb is more the heating chemicals rather than the food? Might try contacting the manufacturer to find out...

Hotcan self-heating meals.

The best before dates are not to do with the heating mechanism, they are the dates issued to us from the food suppliers. We don’t produce the food that goes in to the Hotcans, we use a number of different food manufacturers. This is also why there is a range of best before dates depending on the variety of Hotcan, for example our beans products have maximum 2 year best before dates, whereas our chicken curry has a maximum of 5 years.

As I’m sure you’re aware canning is one of the best ways of preserving food and the dates are ‘best before’ not ‘use by’. We’re confident that both the heating mechanism and the food inside the Hotcans will be safe for a number of years, in fact we actually had a customer find an 23 year old Hotcan in their garage which they successfully activated and ate!
So quite encouraging really. Also based in burton on trent so an english company to boot lol :)

For the price of two Hotcans you can buy a little gas stove and two cans of soup.

But its not always easy to set up a stove. Or you could run out of fuel or not have an ignition method. No the hotcans arent perfect but they are an option worth exploring. :)

Better off just purchasing MOD Rat packs off Ebay ;)
