Here's my top tip for emergency lighting.
You will need:
1. An empty 2 litre soft drinks bottle
2. Some bleach - plain thin/thick bleach uncoloured and unscented
3. A cheap LED light source. Aldi do a set of three for five quid so less than £2 per light.
4. Water
Fill the 2 litre bottle with water to about three quarters full. Add maybe three tablespoons of bleach. shake well and leave to settle (it will froth)
Fix or tape the light source to the top of the bottle. I rest it on top and duck tape around. You DO NOT need a massive source of light, just a small LED torch does the trick.
Turn it on!
Now I can hear all the negative moaners saying why not just use the torch. Duh!
Well, this will give a light bulb style light that will evenly light a room. The "bulb" glows and can be suspended from the ceiling using a piece of string around the neck. A 3w LED gives the equivalent light of a 55w bulb and a small AAA cell torch can give up to 2 days constant light on a set of batteries.
For those that have a shed or some other such outdoor room you can cut the roof and fit the bottle half in, half out of the shed to use natural sunlight to provide you with internal light during the day.
You need to keep a few empty bottles, which you will likely want for water or they will already have soft drinks in, and the normal emergency torches and batteries so LESS items to keep in your prep kit.

I remember watching something where they used bottles as sky lights it looked rather odd but did the job

Not sure about how to do a video but there are pictures in my poorly lit garage here:
