pretty easy to make it but you need the right equipment.
i have a biltong (basically south african jerky) making machine that i make small quantities in.
i use silver side beef, freddie hersches spices, pepper and salt to taste.
cut the beef into long strips rub spices in, hang in machine which then warms the meat up by gentley blowing warm air over it until the meat is dried out to your taste.
hey presto!!
Where do you buy your Jerky?
Re: Where do you buy your Jerky?
I tried Biltong for the first time a few months ago. I thought it was awful. I'd defo sooner eat chick peas!

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
Re: Where do you buy your Jerky?
Yeah me too that's why I learned to make my own and a big part of why I got a dehydrator, I have learned that I should perhaps limit my consumption to what you can buy in a pack from Asda though, the resulting stomach ache from over indulgence and increased use of other things almost negated the DIY savingitsybitsy wrote:I tried Biltong for the first time a few months ago. Quite the reverse for me

I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: Where do you buy your Jerky?
So there is no cheap place to buy jerky
Surely the cost of making is not much cheaper than buying it, after all the expenses it would likely cost more for a first time maker
Guess i will just buy it if i see it cheap, which i did on ebay so tonight i dine of beef jerky and white wine, its the small victories you take in life

Just purchased a jumbo bag of beef jerky from Costco Wholesale today. If you guys have a Costco card and like beef jerky, stock up! Its the cheapest I've seen
£6.79 for 225g
I've attached a quick image
I also purchased a 35 pack of Kirkland water for £3.35

Re: Where do you buy your Jerky?
Great find there mate jerky is so expansive I bought some billatong from eBay and it was so bad I couldn't eat it. You can't beat jerky from the the states. Have a read of this he can make 3 pounds of jerky for the same price as if he bought 1 pound from a shop

Re: Where do you buy your Jerky?
Tesco are doing Wild West original and BBQ beef jerky at the moment for just under £3 buck for 85g, just thought I'd let everyone know

Re: Where do you buy your Jerky?
you must believe me here when i say that the hunters biltong is the best biltong in the country.
being married to a south african lady and having lots of friends that are from south african and zim i have a huge insight, they dont buy it from anywhere else.
some make their own, but still buy from hunters biltong.
i will have a word with the owner and see if i can get a deal going for site members.
have a look at their website, i think they do it in different flavours as well.
you can buy it sliced or in stick which is my favorite
