Just to let you know that rice and lentils have the protein equivalent of steak ... what do you usually eat?

First I'd have a look at the stuff you have already got in the cupboard like soup-fish-peanut butter pickled beetroot mixed veg and single veg cans all these can have a two to four year best before date on them if you already have them in the house you already eat them, if you like spam stock up on some of that as it will last longer than you. Also check that the tins are the type that you need a tin opener for as they will last longer than the pull top cans. then all you have to do is stick the best before date on the shelves ie: everything that has to be used by 2014 goes on one shelve 2016 goes on another and just use them up before the date.

All of the above :)

I have:

Beans
Beans and sausages
Tomatoes
Hot dogs
Spam
Tinned mackerel, tuna etc
Corned beef
Fruit cocktail / tinned fruits in syrup
Sweetcorn, peas, new potatoes

I also have 30kg of rice and 15kg of pasta which will be doubled up over the next month.

This is along with staples like sugar, flour, salt, oil, and other essentials for making breads and other things. Also a good stock of honey and alcohol :)

I would like to out a load of oats aside for adding to things and breakfast etc but my lad is allergic to them, anyone got any suggestions of an alternative?

I've got a fairly good variety of tinned stuff in my food preps,

Tinned potatoes
Green beans
Kidney beans
Baby Carrots
Tuna
Corned beef
Various tinned fruits
Tinned curries and chilli
Plum tomatoes
Various soups
Rice Pudding and Devon Custard
Sardines, pilchards, mackerel.

and of course baked beans and probably a few other tinned things I can't recall offhand. Except for spam which I don't like.

I recently discovered which I must reccomend to you all. Tesco "Everyday Value" mushy peas. Yes, they are inferior to Batchelors IMO, but for only 8p, yes 8p, you can't go wrong.

Tinned is good! As long. As you eat 'em!

Rice - we have about 100kg, never goes off as long as it's stored correctly and the mice can't get at it.
Pasta - about 50kg
Sardines, pilchards, tuna.
Spices and condiments
Tinned peaches
Spam and corned beef
Tea (about 50kg!)
Water purification tabs
Lentils
Porridge oats
Oil
Flour
Yeast
Boiled sweets
Pate
Chick peas etc etc

Should keep you going until your first crops come through. Oh, and 24 bottles of whiskey for bartering!

I have-

Dried- rice, lentils ( red and yellow ) green peas, pasta, oats, dried soup, also several tins of mountain house food.

Tins- lots of soup ( all bought on offer and can be mixed with rice lentils or oats to bulk it out) beans, beans and veggie sausages ( I prefer to normal sausages), meatballs, meatballs and pasta, macaroni and cheese. I have lots of tinned fish. I like the tinned mackerel which lasts for years and can be eaten straight from the tin. Mackerel in tomato sauce and mackerel in hot chilli sauce are both very tasty. I would rather eat the tinned fish which is good than tinned meat which is dubious.

I haven't got any tinned meat like spam but plan to buy some when I see it on offer.

i don`t know about the boring bit . you can knock up a semi decent meal with out using any fresh foods ,
tinned potatoes , tinned peas and carrots and a can of burgers . might not be cordon blue but its better than the alternatives .
you can get cheese sauce you just add water too or mix with milk , add a bag of pasta and instant macc and cheese ..
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .
