Just because it looks like a 4x4 and the advert says it can go anywhere , do not leave tarmac , you will get stuck.
Driving at 10mph does not mean your invincible to skidding.
Maybe selling the snow tyres before christmas to buy wee johnny a ps3 wasnt a good idea.
Erm...problems with your 4x4?

I have learned that camping in the snow and at sub-zero temperatures is a fun experience (I did this last year, too), there's no better way for getting to know Mother Nature, and yourself, than be out there in all seasons.

Ace. :)
Emm no m8 , Nothing much stops a nissan patrol , never been stuck , the last big snow 2009 and 2010 was pulling everything imaginable out of ditches and drifts, and for when that isnt enough i'll get the tractor out

the comment was ment in general with t**t's that have all the chrome bits and the low profile tyres and think iamthebest 4x4

I learnt I'm pretty well prepared and even if I'm completely snowed in I would be alright for a good while.

Isn't. Isn't a fun experience. Please tell me you *really* meant that, especially with the smiley, otherwise I'll let people know you're an alien from ET's planet (you know, they put him in the freezer to preserve him for the dissection room, and he comes back to life, that bit  ). :tinfoil

What have *I* learned? I've learned that I haven't prepared any one-off heating at all, let alone full time tshtf heating. I've learned that when its really cold, I have a tendency to want to go to bed and pull the covers up ... if it all went kablooey tomorrow, I'd be awfully chilly.

Yeah, I meant that. Hand on my heart, and everything - meant it. I'd like to point out that I didn't use a tent, I was in a hammock and under a tarp somewhere in North Wales. I did it last Winter when it was -11. I know what you're thinking, and you're right - I'm a bit mad.

Yeah I've learnt a BIG fire is needed to keep warm when camping out in sub zero temps. Yes it uses more wood but, that's what it takes to keep warm.

People are either paranoid, or too sanguine and lack risk assessment skills. Its like the roads were clear when I went to the theatre with my father, it was is if we had fallen through a hole in time to a time when few people had cars (it was lovely!) but the roads were drive-able.

People leave everything to the last minute and don't think that "it" will ever happen, until it does. The other extremes are the people who actually go to extreme locations when the should know that bad weather is coming, thus putting themselves in danger.

It was almost as if people had given up living purely for the thrill seeking of staring at the TV screen paranoid about what might happen in the next weather forecast.

I had no need to panic buy, I did a few top-up shopping loads when there was the first few medium to long range forecasts about possible really bad weather, but I wasn't caught up in the panic buying an have seen none of it.

Always have a bit more food in stock. If I just ate what I had in stock an didn't buy extra things for specific meals (EG., breakfast) and just ate what I had and not what I wanted so to speak, I could probably keep myself going for months. Especially as my lentil stews were cheap as, well, chips. :? Actually, no. Cheaper. :D

Nicely done Sir,

I too am a cold weather camper, off again this weekend

I also learnt which neighbour's cat is crapping on my lawn by the tracks they left

I need a new thermos, the inside of mine has decided to shatter. I also need alternative power - we are electric and oil here. I have been looking at generators - just so I can preserve the contents of my freezer if nothing else. We have 2 open fires downstairs so effectively we could live downstairs. I have a 2 burner camping cooker with gas.

I will not rely on the weather forecasting - it's so totally off. No snow here today apparently but it's been bleaching down all day, so much that I collected the ankle snappers from school at lunchtime and thank goodness I did, the road to the rural school was terrible.

I have learnt that my prepping is indeed genius as I have not had half the anxiety I had back in 2010.
