For me, it's logical. You don't want to look different, but you need to carry stores with you. So you have the lightest possible, which are MRE's, I think - and since they're also the smallest, sewing a few pockets around the inside of the tatty clothes is easy enough. If you're female, then just a long skirt would do it, plenty of space on the inside of it for pockets and as a bonus, it'll keep you really warm!

It *is* logical, but its very easily overlooked ... as for *what*, I think I'd be more likely to use packets of nuts and dried fruit, ticks a lot of boxes ... will definitely give that some serious thought. Ta muchly!

Good idea about sewing pockets inside jackets etc. although if I was bugging out I would definitely have to take a rucksack with me which is why I think the train lines would be a really smart idea. Getting out of London will be hairy no matter what if the SHTF so I would have to travel armed with some sort of weapon anyway for L&D situations... probably a slingshot.
Maps - I definitely need to get detailed local maps and decide where to head for - and yes, I think I will start by looking for the largest wooded area I can.

Try chislehurst caves although they are large and well knowen but if you do a bit of exploring of them you might find a small part of it that is overlooked by the other sheep

Or Cheddar Gorge. A wee bit of a walk for you, but if you can get out of the city in one piece, you can take your time getting there, foraging as you go. Plenty of caves, plenty of woodland, plenty of space and game and things.

A lot is going to depend on what kind of SHTF and on the season. You're not going to want to walk out of London in September and try to get to CG or, tbh, anywhere else that's a safe distance if the scenario isn't one that flattens the population; too many others competing for resources. On the other hand, if it's, say, a pandemic, then it shouldn't be too hard to get where you want to go - very few others competing for resources.

That's a great website - a few locations there which are really close to where I live too, so even better!
Thanks Hamradioop :)
