Night time disasters

Problem is as we found with the flooding a few weeks back the local mobile grid gets overloaded no chance of making a call, no way of receiving a text message Yet the mobile internet seemed to keep working..
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

The overloading of the mobile signal happens at serious incidents - think back to 9/11. People could not contact family to say they were OK.

As preppers we need to think and have alternatives in place.

Exactly, SMS is a nice system but very prone to falling over.

I really cannot see any benefit to waking each other up at 2am just to see if they work at night either, maybe I am missing something?

this wasn't serious as in the town didn't flood it came close but i resorted to useing one of the few remaining phone boxes to pass on a message via land line 60p minimum charge now the robbing so n so's
