never came across Devon pattern ? do you happen to have a picture ??

A Devon shovel is what you linked to mate

I prefer that shape to the other one that Roughneck do micro shovels in

In my defence, I worked for a Smith in my late teens and he was a stickler for the correct names of tool patterns. Most people don't know a Devon from a Banjo or a Collier's....... Sadly I do :geek:

Hi rusty, try googling Chinese military shovel, get a real one & they are excellent I can also recommend german/swedish army shovels they don't fold but are also excellent but more of a sand or snow shovel.

I use a 2 fold spade, I find it much more versatile than a single folding spade as it can fit in the top of my BOB, it is all very strong (have used it for digging a foundation when I couldn't find another spade) mine also has a saw on the side, never used it but it looks cool:p only problem is I always find it too short!

Supposed to be good, not seen one or owned one personally.

Cougar. Thats the Spetznaz I was talking about, theres very little (read "almost no") crank between the blade and the handle. While this makes using it as a hatchet (or a weapon) easier, it makes shovelling (and to a lesser extent spading) harder.
Also it suffers from the main fault of all E-tools.... Its too damn short to dig with :D

Ollyr. Is it a Tri-Fold ?

Great for what they are, I wouldn't want to have to dig fox-holes or emplacements with them..... But then, I don't get shot at for a living*

Oh yeh that'll be the one! Used to keep it in the car but because of its versatility I put it in the BOB:)

I was going to go with the cold steel shovel. I see it more of a jack of all sort of tool which while it may not be great for digging what am I ever going to dig for an extended amount of time. Plus it's light and £20. And you end up with a double headed axe which looks a little more innocent.
