Could really use a guide on Bow making plus arrows, I have never quite got it right :(

Instead, why not look up "slingbow" online.

Ermmm a Longbow is very different to a "slingbow" ;)

I would certainly not be using the bow for fishing :)

I've got a friend who makes arrows and another who forges arrow heads so between us we can throw something together.
Making the bow is probably the easy part, getting decent bow wood is another story all together. Good yew , for example , is getting rare and expensive so much so that there are moves afoot to import it from the balkans which with yew bows fetching four figures makes , at least, ecomomic sense.
Best advice is to start with a small bow. Low poundage and no bigger than three feet so suitable for a child. It is "very " easy to bend and view and gives you a feel for the bow. I do most of my work with the axe for rough shaping then a spokeshave all the time bending the stave on a tiller to let me see if the curve is progressing evenly. Any "straight" bits then need a little more removing.
That's probably not that clear but hopefully makes sense if you try it.

Nick does make a good point. Historically one reason the bow was dropped was the time and expense required to be able to actually use one whereas if a man could stand he could be using a gun in a very short time. I've never used the slingbow but it does look as if it doesn't require years of practice.
