The security side of things is difficult. You will read on some US sites some wanabee rambo saying as long as he has his guns and plenty of ammunition no one will get near him but it doesnt matter how many guns he has he still has to sleep at some point. In this country that isnt even an option for the vast majority of us anyway.

If you are planning to bug out on your own or in a small family group, although security is important (and this is just my opinion) being hidden or remote enough that you reduce the chances of being discovered is at least as important if not more so. If you are joining a larger group or community then things would maybe be different but if you are on your own then imo the best security is not being found.

Like BP says, its a good idea to have a good look at some OS maps, mark a few sites that look interesting and go and have a look around

I know exactly where I would like to go. The village where my youngest sister lives.

But... To her it's a buy today and throw away tomorrow life and I know she won't consider prepping, despite us talking about everything that's going on in the country and it was scaring her a few weeks ago. She just doesn't get it that she can do something about it for herself.

So, as much as I'd love to take all our gear and bug out with her and the family and share our food, look after each other etc, it's also annoying that I know their cupboards will be virtually empty and no water stored although we would be in a fairly safe place for a while.

My entire planning has been based on bugging-in, however recently, I have given consideration to my BOL options. This is difficult for me; first I have a young so with various disabilities, my OH doesn't want to leave her family who live very close, as do mine. I am slowly working on them all gradually exerting some influence on them to the prepper mind set.

Witt that in mind I really have a couple of options;

My parents own a large static caravan on a private managed site. this is relatively secluded and surrounded by woodland but is about 5 mile from a small town and about 10 mile from a city; so I guess lots of locals would know about it. It is however 120 mile from home and there are really only 2 main routes to get to the site from here; one of which is regularly closed due to bad weather.

My second option is the coast! I live very close to the sea and lots of secluded beaches with caves in the base of the cliffs; some of which were once smuggler caves. I've considered that maybe sea caves (they don't flood) could present a secure, dry and warm location for a bug out location. The only sign of use would be seen by those out at sea and by smoke rising. I'm going to do a reccy at some point and scout them out a bit more, but what are your thoughts on caves next to the sea ?
