We've just completed our wills. Back in November 2013 we found the Will Aid website and used that. They'll be doing the same thing November this year.
You can do wills yourself but we wanted absolute peace of mind to ensure the kids would be properly looked after, that some people didn't unjustly benefit (so created Memorandum of Intent to accompany the Wills) and even though civil partnership is pretty much sorted in legal terms we wanted to ensure death benefits and so on were apportioned correctly.
It was really easy to sort out, the solicitor was fantastic and we felt good about donating to charity. Well recommended.
Terminal Preps
Re: Terminal Preps
What a great topic and one close to my hart.
People tend to think when you die you have to do this and you have to do that and it all costs so much.
Well you don't have to do much of anything and you don't have to make everyone wealthy, check the law out.
My plan for my shell when I'm no longer in it, and my partners wanting the same choice and my children and family stand by us and will follow it.
My brothers or other family members will make a cardboard coffin for us, they will collect our bodies from the morgue and drive us to the crematorium after the deed is done our ashes will be taken to
our resting places and we will be set free.
My free zone is an ash slide leading to a railway track in Cathays cemetery in cardiff where we played for years as kids. Basically a dirty earth hill amongst trees.
If anyone tries to block our wishes our shells will not be claimed and no doubt we will suffer a far worse fair well than what we planed.
My mother all her life said she wanted her shell donated to medical science on her death my brothers and sisters paid for a full funeral, she will be turning in her urn and sadly I paid toward it as well, but my excuse was I did not want to be the only one not to donate. But her wishes were ignored because others disagreed with her. Is that right ?, not to me.

PPPPPP = Proper Planning Prevents Pee Poor Performance, thats very true and applies to many events in life...and death. A basic insurance plan to cover funeral costs is the bear minimum you need to do for your family.

Re: Terminal Preps
My mother had put money to one side long before she passed away and had told me where to find it and relevant paperwork which certainly smoothed things out when the time came.
Re: Terminal Preps
I'm not too bothered, when I'm dead I'm dead, life is for the living.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.
Re: Terminal Preps
If you have children its vital that they know where to find things and what your intentions are. We now have several properties we rent out, plus our own house etc and the wife and I want things to be as simple as they can be for our children when we go. For our funeral we both want the cheapest coffin, one 'car', no flowers (feel free to donate to Help for Heroes) and cremation.

seeing as how I expect to end up on my own, that's debateable, and no, I don't have anyone to leave anything to.
