Might be worth doing. ;)

Planning to do something illegal is still dodgy though, no matter what your criteria are. And some people, me included, would prefer to avoid anything immoral (like theft or looting) at all costs. Regardless of a possible future state of lawlessness.

You could join the gorilla gardening movement, let me explain.

Urban areas seem to hold space where no one is making use of it, what many call brown sites. Try gaining a little knowledge of growing veg, plenty of good books in your library. Then start small, say plant a few rows of carrots between the rows of flowers in your local parks flowerbeds. Keep it small and spread your crop just in case its found. These flowerbeds tend to be the best as they have been well fed over the years.

As you gain in confidence and knowledge spread your crop to other areas and other types of crop. Your planting needs to be done covertly and left unvisited until harvest to stave off detection.
I first found out about gorilla gardening whilst living in London 20yrs ago, anywhere that held a little soil was holding squatters of the food kind. Since then i have found i have green fingers and seem to get a good return for my efforts.

HOWEVER BE WARNED

In looking for out of the way sites i have found a few places holding a harvest of cannibis plants. The choice is yours but i leave these places as i find them and dont return, be my luck a copper turns up and nicks me for cultivation.

I know this isnt like finding ready grown food stuffs but combine your visits to the library to learn knowledge on growing and identification ;)

If you are foraging rather than guerrilla gardening then there re few places I'd avoid , for instance it's common to see apple trees right next to a road grown from a discarded core but that close to traffic it is likely for the fruit to be effected by pollution from cars and lorries. Likewise anything close to a footpath that may get sprayed by the council usually by some spotty oik that sprays far too much and far too wide. Also watch areas heavily used by dog walkers who let their animals ''fertilize '' the areas and don't clean up after them.

Did you know that most human waste from septic tanks is collected and laid out to dry after treating with chemicals. Once this drys and normally has turned white, it is spread on fields that in turn yield food for human consumption. This has been going on for many years and the name given to this crap (pardon the pun) is called cake........

Next time your out for a drive see how many fields have this white powdery fertilizer spread over it ;)

Sorry Matt but you may be confused slightly , most sewage is directly injected under the ground , usually under the pasture land to fertilise the ground , the white stuff could be chicken manure, or even pulp waste from the paper industry , or even lime to help neutralise the ph . So all that's white in the country isn't cake as you say , but I do know my s**t from the spetic tank gets taken to the sewage works in a tanker , mixed with the other effluent and processed.

Be Prepared.

Remember, you will not survive on just foraging. Most "wayside" plants add only to salads and cooked "greens". In an emergency situation where food stocks are in short supply or controlled you will need a months supply already stocked at home.
