Get shutter blinds and keep a few smaller decorative items on window sills.
The shutters wont actually stop an actual determined attack but it will hinder any and all attempts by tangling and making noise. Same with the plant pots/picture frames theyll just get in the way and make noise.
You dont have to be the most secure house on the planet to deter casual thiefs, just more secure than your nieghbours (as Jack as it sounds).
Although in damaralenoires' case, if the guy was three sheets to the wind the logic would probably be lost in any case.

Cutting, combustion, cordage, container, cover.
Re: Home Security Plan
We had our house broken into for the car keys and had the car stolen in the middle of the night without anyone waking up... afterwards we had all the locks and door handles changed and put up two CCTV camera's to cover the house entrance and entrance to the garden. They never found the people who broke him but they the police did happen to recover my mother's sunglasses which were in the car!

I like the noisy entry strategy, it's one step down from booby traps My intention with shock sensors 24/7 a big dog double glazing//hinges which don't open fully unless you're inside already to press the catches, and window locks, is to have an alarm going off before they actually get in, at which point we would be shouting to one another an informative strategy giving clues to the chances of the invader who had the balls to come this far, had of keeping them intact were they to stay.
Burglary tends to be non confrontational.
Aggravated burglary occurs when they are trapped and chose to try to fight their way out, or worse leave no witnesses.
Home invasion is a determined attack with no care for the occupants, in this case I believe it fair to consider yours/family's life in very real danger, they may even attack you to get information as to where the valuables are, these scenarios are rare but if we're honest they are the ones which we torment ourselves about, and where the proportional and measured response we see in law come into play as well as the heat of the moment, they have no care for your life in this scenario, so to survive it, it is fair to have little for theirs but only to the point at which the tables are turned.

I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Re: Home Security Plan
I was talking to the gardener for the partment buildings to where i lived just before the weekend and he was saying that because putting barbed wire isnt allowed on certain property, reasons are unknown, he was telling me that he no longer throws away thorn bushes after trimming them but using gardening wire lays them around the top of wooden fences on some of the properties he maintains. Not a bad idea i guess

spikey vegetation on property perimeters is an excellent security measure with no questions asked. Bushes against graffiti prone walls is also good 'preventer'.

Good idea to make use of anti-burglar plants

No doubt some thieving scrote will sue you for 'having a dangerous garden'
PS Of course the 'I' or at least my username would be the ideal anti-burglar plant.........

I live in the upstairs flat of a converted house; the front door opens directly onto the stairs. Due to the proximity of the town centre, we get the drunken 'knock and runs' on Fri & Sat night and on 2 occasions have had the door kicked in. Fortunately, on both occasions, I was home and responded by leap from bed and confronting the culprits on the stairs. Unfortunately, I sleep naked and didn't stop to get dressed.
Bottom line: As the sight of my naked man-tackle, descending towrads them rapidly has proved too much for the would-be intruders, I have never had to discover how far I'd be willing to go to protect my home.
In answer to the question, I have a 6 x D cell maglite, a selection of knives & a machete (in my BOB), escrima sticks*, nunchakus* and a boken* in the bedroom, the usual collection of knives and blunt instruments in the kitchen and a small collection of swords & knives (including some 'live' blades) in the living room and I would not hesitate to use any of them if I genuinely believed that my, or anyone elses, lives were in danger (with the exception of my assailant, obviously).
* All used for Martial Arts training, I don't just have them knocking about just in case.

Nor me I live in monmouth.damaralenoire wrote:for me the guy unhooked the latch on my kitchen window which is about 7-8ft off the ground, and entered the property climbing over my sink. i didnt use any sharp weapons but fortunately he had none on him either but it was more of a fisticuff than anything and as he was intoxicated it was easy to floor him, the police were arrogant but the items i had on display were purely collect-able even though they are sharp when pulled out of their sheath. i was told that his broken nose could of been avoided if i had just let him leave but he made out that when he went for the front door after i confronted him that i wouldnt let him leave and beat him to the floor..... that wasnt completely true but his face did hit my bare concrete hallway floor pretty hard............ a couple of times....... Anyway i was told i went to far but no action was taken.......
Did anyone see the news about the guy who had two men breaking into his business stealing, he defending himself and broke the two legs of one of the criminals but today the criminal was trying to get sympathy in the papers stating he was the victim. incident in question is not far from where i live.

Back to the question though, it is difficult to have much of a plan due to living in a very small business. all i can do is encure, windows are locked and my front door is locked, i have no where to hide, i have 3 landline phones situation living room, bedroom and hallway and have my mobile next to me to. Told off by police when i had a security camera installed so i have to just hope nothing like that happens again soon.
