Still dreaming as I seem to be the only one who fancies the self-sufficiency life style, other half just doesn't get it.
There are loads of freebies available via the internet as companies want people to try their products. Also, friends of mine know that I collect all the toiletries I can (when on occasion I stay at a hotel). Three friends now collect and give me their freebies!
Very true stasher, I get mini toothpastes, sample washing powders, shampoo sachets, body lotions and tons of bits from freebie sites. I do love a freebie/sample!

Lovely
Only one problem with that is those companies want you personal data.

I don't worry too much about that when buying normal shopping, household stuff. I couldn't live my life worrying that "someone" out there knows I buy soap every month, life's too short.

I meant giving my name, address and phone out to someone just for a sample of soap.
I personally try to stay under radar as much as possible.
Try to google your name. You'll be surprised.
Googling my name won't show any info about me.

I've googled my name and as I share it with a very famous actress she is all that comes up thousands of times!
I never give my correct phone number though, sales calls not welcome here!

Not really worried that much about my info, billions of people out there, but I use a freebie email address for anything not personal, give a wrong phone number and have everything delivered to my works (for Mr john doe)
Unless of course it is a very clever reference to taking inspiration from Alan Partridge (he retains the sanitary towel packets from his hotel room to hold his werthers originals and has a large stockpile of mini bottles of body lotion) or a reference to the 90s sitcom friends where they debate the morality of stealing from hotels (you cant take the remote control but you CAN take the batteries out of it! Genius)
Personally I'm inspired by the original Red Dawn (still good value) the possibility of Spetsnaz paratroopers landing in the playground was what kept me going back to school
Rogers: "Stark, we need a plan of attack"
Stark: "I have a plan; ATTACK!"

as a moderator , I was wondering how far it could stray away from the original theme!!!!
My own original inspiration was the BBC version of Day Of The Triffids, back in 1981. Still my favourite book too.
Carry on swerving off topic!
